About the course

What is this course?Mindfully Resisting Attention Capitalism is an 8-week programme designed to support digital wellbeing in a world built to capture and hold our attention. The course aims to help us to understand how our attention is shaped by the digital environments we use every day and to develop our capacity to engage with our digital lives with greater awareness, choice and intentionality. The programme combines mindfulness practice, practical habit change and critical education. It is structured and reflective, with a focus on supporting lasting changes in how we use technology. What problem is it trying to solve? Many people feel caught in patterns of distraction: compulsive scrolling, difficulty focusing and information overload. We often view these problems as a personal failing, but in reality they are the consequence of the political and economic moment in which we find ourselves. We live in the age of attention capitalism: a business model wherein companies profit by capturing and selling human attention. Digital platforms are therefore designed to maximise engagement by grabbing and sustaining our attention against our will. This is why many apps feel hard to put down and why our attention feels so fragmented.Having our attention constantly competed for can impact heavily on our wellbeing. The results can be increased stress, reduced wellbeing and a diminished sense of control over how we spend our time. This course provides an approach to reclaiming our attention in this world of distraction.Who is it for? This course is for adults who feel their relationship with technology is not fully under their control and who want to develop a more intentional way of engaging with digital tools. No prior experience of mindfulness is required. The course is not designed as a clinical intervention and is not suitable for those currently experiencing serious mental distress. What is the approach? The course is built around three integrated methods:1. A structured digital “unplug”, wherein we drastically reduce our technology usage for a period of three weeks in the middle of the course. This period will allow us to loosen our existing digital habits and, combined with the other methods on the course, will allow us to intentionally reintroduce technologies in a way which supports our overall wellbeing. The Unplug is guided by participants themselves, to be tailored to fit the individual needs of their own lives2. Developing a regular mindfulness practice to strengthen our attentional habits, to make us more resilient against the demands upon our attention and enable greater intentionality and choice3. Critical education on attention capitalism helps us to understand what this business model is, how it operates and why it is such a powerful force in our lives. By critically engaging with attention capitalist motivations and techniques, we can recognise and avoid its trapsThese three techniques, when combined, give us the tools to begin to resist the demands of attention capitalism. Whilst we provides these techniques and create the environment for change, it is up to each individual to choose exactly how best to apply them to their life. What does the course involve? The course runs over eight weeks, with weekly group sessions lasting 2 hours. The three-week Unplug runs between sessions 3 and 6.Alongside this, participants are asked to engage in around 10 to 20 minutes of daily mindfulness practice as instructed by the tutor, plus reflection on course content and our digital habits throughout the week between sessions. The course is group-based, meaning in each session we will share our thoughts, reflections and activities. There is a strong emphasis on peer learning and support. What is the goal? The aim of the course is for you to develop more control over your digital life, an improved ability to focus and a greater overall sense of wellbeing. You will also leave with practical tools and understanding that allow you to make more deliberate choices about your use of technology, both during the course and beyond it.Who created the course? The course is designed and delivered by Simo Bradley, a qualified Secular Mindfulness Teacher with over a decade’s experience teaching mindfulness and meditations. How do I get involved?A pilot programme will be delivered in May and June 2026, with the course launching publicly later in the year.To take part in the pilot, fill out the form linked below.
